The Sunlight Foundation

When mass media is no longer attracting masses.

Decades ago, Walter Cronkite had the eyes and ears of half the entire viewing public in the continental United States. The messages he carried reached enough of the voting public to alter the political landscape of the nation.

Now, the voting viewing audience is being segmented into ever smaller niches, usually into personal interest groups aimed at particular past-times such as riding motorcycles, skateboarding, World of WarCraft, baking, etc.

We can ignore the blogs and news posts that don't appeal to us, but they still might be important, and it's those few of us pessimists who collect and disseminate information we feel you might need.

We're the parents who say "eat your vegetables!" "Listen to public policy information, especially if it doesn't taste good!"
